Jun 21, 2026"Chose to have dinner here with my wife for the second night in Varenna. After searching throughout all the restaurants opened at the end of March (and they're not that many), this restaurant kept reappearing for its good service and food, so we decided to pay them a visit. We got there around 7pm and the restaurant was empty. We found it a bit weird, given that it's dinner time for us, but asked for a table for 2 nonetheless. The chef was very welcoming and showed us to a table upstairs, by the window. As I had had a big breakfast and no lunch, I was quite hungry. Therefore I ordered a lasagna and a portion of fried seafood (fritto misto). My wife went for the same lasagna and a portion of French fries. Whilst we were waiting for the food, the host brought over a bread basket and 2 types of oil: regular olive oil and chilli olive oil. My wife's lasagna and my fried seafood platter came first, followed by my lasagna and lastly, her french fries. We chose for all the food to come together, so this was fine. The lasagna was nice and tasty, with the right amount of sauce in it. However, one thing that we both noticed was that there wasn't as much meat in it as we expected. The seafood was all very nice, with a crunchy texture. The slice of lemon that came with it really helped cut through all the grease. We also fancied some desserts at the end, so my wife ordered a cheesecake and I, a tiramisu. Unfortunately, the host came back apologising for the miscommunication, as they didn't have any cheesecakes left. We appreciated her letting us know and we were ok with sharing the tiramisu. The dessert was very nice and indulgent and not too sweet, which is a massive plus for me. I also tried a few pieces of bread. They were fluffy, however it would have been better if they would have been heated up before they were served. Overall we really appreciated the service from our host, and even though the food can be improved, we're glad to have tried this place and we would recommend it."
